For 2023, USDrift will be returning to the Formula DRIFT PRO/AM by offering drivers the opportunity to earn a 2024 Formula DRIFT license through a newly created program called the USDrift Scouting Report. Formula DRIFT has redesigned the licensing format, changed the number of licenses that are available each year, and reduced the licenses to be valid for only one year (the immediate year after they are awarded). This newly designed program is in lieu of hosting a traditional multi-event competition series or double-elimination one or two round competition events. The USDrift Scouting Report will allow USDrift to offer a variety of events that interested drivers can participate in to be scouted at over the course of an entire season. These events will include casual track days, bash events (i.e. HyperFest), and competition events (i.e. Battle on the Bay).
The USDrift Scouting Report will consist of a five-member panel that will observe drivers attending events to help determine whether drivers would make a good fit for Formula DRIFT. The panel for 2023 will include Formula DRIFT judge Brian Eggert, former Formula DRIFT PRO driver and PRO2 champion Dan Savage, Formula Drift spotter, Drift School instructor, and USDrift judge Reese Marin, USDrift judge Mike Schneider, and USDrift judge Ben Portyrata. The combined experience of the panel includes various levels of involvement in drifting and as such, should grant them significant knowledge into the sport. The panel may select at their discretion, one eligible driver to award a 2024 Formula DRIFT license that is avalid for the 2024 season only. The recommendation will be determined by the combined scouting reports from each member of the panel based on the evaluations of the drivers, their vehicles, media content, marketability, and overall program, as these things are all needed to run a successful program in Formula DRIFT.
Drivers interested in being considered for the USDrift Scouting Report can apply online here. Applications are open until May 15th for the 2023 season. For more information on the new Formula DRIFT PRO/AM licensing series and changes, click here.
